What is Aromasin?
Aromasin (exemestane) lowers estrogen levels in postmenopausal women, which may slow the growth of certain types of breast tumors that need estrogen to grow in the body.
Aromasin is used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It is often given to women whose cancer has progressed even after surgery, radiation, or other cancer medications have been tried without success. Aromasin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Exemestane Applications
Exemestane is used to assist in the treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen receptor positive early breast cancer, which received two to three years of tamoxifen and switched to five consecutive years of adjuvant hormone therapy. US FDA approved in October 2005.
This drug is used to treat certain types of breast cancer in postmenopausal women (such as hormone receptor-positive breast cancer). Exemestane is also used to help prevent the return of cancer. Some breast cancers are called estrogen that grows naturally faster. Exemestane reduces the amount of estrogen produced by the body and helps to relieve or reverse the growth of these breast cancers.
Exemestane usually does not apply to women of childbearing age.
Exemestane is also used to treat postmenopausal women with advanced breast cancer, whose disease progresses after tamoxifen treatment.
